Photovoltaic (PV) systems are clean, quiet, long lasting (25+ years and reliable). Solar panels can be mounted on the roof or racked on the ground. This can be done in new construction or existing structures. We work with our customers to provide a clean looking, well placed efficient system to provide a smart, well engineered and high performance application.
There are two basic types of systems called "Grid Tie" and "Off Grid."
Grid Tie Photovoltaic Power Systems
Grid Tie Phototovoltaic (PV) systems are the most common, and most cost effective solution for a typical residential home or small business.
With a Grid Tie system the solar modules on your roof are creating power in addition to the power you receive from your electrical utility off of the power grid.
The power you generate will reduce the power you use from the grid, which will reduce your power bill. If you generate more power than you are using, that power is fed back out to the grid for other people to use.
Your utility company may offer programs like "net metering" that will calculate the power you make and the power you use, and only charge you for the difference. Additionally, they may roll over your unused power credits from month to month, allowing you to make excess power in the winter, and then use your credits for your air conditioner in the summer.
Because your power generation is tied directly to the utility grid, if there is a blackout, your system will shut down. This is to prevent you from feeding power into the lines in your neighborhood, which may potentially injure utility workers attempting to repair a power disruption.
For an additional cost there are backup power systems available that can be used during power outages, using any combination of solar, battery, and a generator.

Off Grid Photovoltaic Power Systems
When utility lines are not available, Off Grid PV systems can provide your electrical power. Progressive Solar, Inc. has extensive experience powering single family homes in remote locations. Although primarily powered by solar, this type of application typically involves using solar in combination with batteries for power storage, and a backup generator.
These systems are designed to operate automatically with minimal to no involvement and very low maintenance.
